Umm I guess I'll start with the basics I learned when I first started learning German. I'm going to try do this like how Rosetta Stone does it. They don't give you a direct translation; they give you the German word and the picture that word stands for. It's quite effective, because it mimics the way you learned your first language when you were a baby. Anyway, if you have questions about what word means what or anything else, please ask. I will post a link at the bottom of the post. It will take you to a video that shows you the pictures, word, and lets you hear the pronunciation. I will cover a lot of the basic words before I move on to sentences.
Okay well, here we go **blush**

die Frau:
German Lessons! DieFrau

der Mann:
German Lessons! Man

der Junge:
German Lessons! LittleBoy

das Mädchen:
German Lessons! LittleGirl

isst/essen (singular and plural, respectively):

German Lessons! Isst / German Lessons! Essen

kochen:
German Lessons! Kochen

liest:
German Lessons! Liest

rennt:
German Lessons! Rennt

swimmt:
German Lessons! Swimmt

In German, the capitalization rules are different than in English so I'll mimic how it should be capitalized here.

Well "der Junge" and "das Mädchen" really just mean "the boy" and "the girl". If you wanted to say "little girl" it would be "kleines Mädchen" (kleines sounds like reclines without the "re"). It would be basically the same for "little boy" (they do have different forms for certain words when used in reference to females and males). In German it would be "kleinen Junge" (kleinen sounds like kleines except with the "en" sound on the end instead of "s" sound). Anyway, other than that little clarification, you got everything right! Congrats! bounce (not that it was that difficult XD)

Of course! If you have any questions go ahead and ask. I'll post another lesson on Sunday (that'll be my lesson day) and I'll try to make it a bit longer. Oh and don't foget about the video link- it's really important if you want to know how to speak German, not just read and write it **blink**

Ah I see I see. Thanks for the clarification. So, kleinen is kind of like a "male" form and kleines is the "female" form?
Hahaha indeed, it wasn't so hard I guess since the pictures said it all. **blush**

Yep, kleinen is masculine and kleines is feminine. There is also a form for gender nuetral objects, but I'll leave that until we really need it German Lessons! 3935854470

Here is the second lesson. Whoot! I'll be trying to do on some Sundays from now on. I am going to do it slightly different today. It's going to be longer because I'll be adding a couple new words, and we'll be incorperating both the old and new words into small phrases. I won't be using pictures for the phrases (except for in the video), so you'll have to use your memory (or look at the last lesson Wink ) to figure out what it means. Also, we will be adding in plurals or the words we have learned. If you have a question as to what anything means, you just need to ask and I'll tell you.

Yay! New words Very Happy We'll start of with 2 pronouns. I couldn't figure out how to make pictures describe these so I have to explain them using words. They'll still be included in the pronunciation video:

Sie - This is a feminine pronoun, but it is also used when referring to a group (even if the group is all males). It is equivalent to "she" and "they" in English. This is used for all ages.

Er- This is a masculine pronoun and is only ever used (or at least, I've never heard it used other than in this way) when referring to one male. Its English equivalent is "he". This is used for all ages

The other new words are:

schreibt (sounds kind of like "she-griped", without the g, you'll hear it in the video): German Lessons! Schreibt

trinkt (you'll hear it in the very first example in the video): German Lessons! Trinkt

Männer (sounds like "meh-ner"): German Lessons! Mnner

Frauen (sounds just like "Frau", but with the "en" sound on the end): German Lessons! Frauen

Jungen(sounds like Junge, but replace the "eh" sound with "en": German Lessons! Jungen

Mädchen(not Madchen, anyway, these two sound the same to me, they just look different): German Lessons! Mdchen

*Note: The above new words are included in the pronunciation video, but they are not by themselves- they're in phrases so you'll have to listen carefully.

Now, to practice what we've learned, I'm going to do this kind of like a work sheet. I'll list some phrases and you reply with a post saying what you think it means (for example: let's say #1 is "Der Mann swimmt" you would put in your reply "#1 - the man swims"). The phrases are very simple and it won't be difficult to figure them out, and it'll work your brain a bit (which helps them to stick a bit better in your memory).

#1 - Sie isst.
#2 - Er kocht.
#3 - Sie lesen.
#4 - Sie rennt.
#5 - Die Jungen swimmen.
#6 - Der Mann swimmt.
#7 - Der Mann isst.
#8 - Sie swimmen.
#9 - Die Frauen rennen.
#10 - Er swimmt.
#11 - Er scheibt.
#12 - Sie schreiben.
#13 - Sie kochen.
#14 - Sie rennen.
#15 - Die Männer kochen.
#16 - Die Frauen swimmen.
#17 - Das Madchen swimmt.
#18 - Sie kocht.
#19 - Der Mann kocht.
#20 - Die Frau swimmt.
#21 - Sie schreibt.
#22 - Er isst.
#23 - Der Junge leist.
#24 - Der Junge trinkt.
#25 - Das Mädchen trinken.
#26 - Die Frauen lesen.
#27 - Sie schreiben.
#28 - Sie essen.

and here is the Video Link ( I was really busy this week so I didn't have time to make all the slides for the video, but I'll re-make it sometime this week with all the slides so please bear with it for now >_<):

Pronunciation Video v1
(Oh and, yes, in the first slide I did misspell "carefully", but I was in a rush so please don't mind it German Lessons! 1983558320 )

I would love it if you would join us!

You got most of them right! Woohoo! That means I'm a pretty good teacher haha That's a relief German Lessons! 4019512717 On the ones you did get wrong, it was mostly the same mistake of what use the "sie" was being used as ("she" or "they"). When I first started learning German this baffled me, until I realized that the trick to figuring out what form the "sie" was used as. If you pay close attention to the form of the verb in the sentence, you'll be able to tell what form the "sie" is. If the verb is in the plural form, the "sie" is translated as "they". If the verb is in singular form, the "sie" is translated as "she". As long as you take your time to figure out the verb, you'll have no problem. As for how you conjugated the verbs in your translations, you did them perfectly for how you translated the worksheet. Some of your translations were incorrect, but the way you conjugated the verb in those incorrect translations was still perfect. German Lessons! 2968088584

Okay the ones you got wrong are the following:

#3 - She reads. On this one it was "Sie lesen". "Lesen" is the plural form of "liest". That of course can't be used with "she" (because "she read" doesn't really sound right lol) so, by process of elimination, the "sie" means "they". The correct translation is "They read". I made this mistake a lot when I first started learning German, until I really started to be able to pick out plural forms easily.

#4 - They run. Now on this one you had the opposite problem of #3. It was "Sie leist" and if you look at the verb it is in the singular form. The correct translation would be "She runs"

#8 - She swims. The original was "Sie swimmen". The verb is in plural form, therfore the correct translation would be "They swim".

#12 - She writes. "Sie schreiben" <-- the verb was in plural form so the "sie" is translated as "they". ""They write" is the correct translation.

To help solidify this info in your mind I'll ask you to see if you can correct the following 3 on your own. They all have the same mistake so once you figure one out, you should be able to do the rest (if you can't do it-don't stress about it, I can still correct it for you. I'm confident that you can do it though **blink** ).

#14 - She runs.

#27 - She writes.

#28 - She eats.

I'm soooooo sorry for not posting any lessons since October! German Lessons! 511594056 I feel so terrible about it :-( Anyway, I blame my schedule (it has been insane lately). Well, to start of the new year, I decided I would stay up late and make this for all of you~ It's a bit short, but it was about 11pm when I made it, so I was totally wiped. Also, I felt like using big pictures 'cause having to re-size them was not going to happen that late at night XD Okay! Onto the lesson~

Wasser: German Lessons! Wateruau

der Kaffee: German Lessons! Coffeee

die Zeitung: German Lessons! Newspaperx

die Katze: German Lessons! Catbgj

die Bücher: German Lessons! Booksq

Ja: This one just means "Yes". I'm pretty sure that most people know that already, but I decided to teach it anyway. XD In the pronunciation video, I put a picture of a "thumbs up"; just so that there wouldn't be a blank screen.

der Reis: German Lessons! Rices

die Milch: German Lessons! Milku

das Brot: German Lessons! Breadhw

Okay~ Those are your new words. I included one extra word in the video, but it's one you already know (just for fun).

Here's the video. I put a password on the album they're in though, so you'll need it to watch the video. The password is german. If it doesn't work, just let me know and I'll fix it German Lessons! 3935854470

Click me~ I'm the video~
Don't forget to post a reply that has what you think each new word means. German Lessons! 4019512717

Oh, no problem, I'm pretty sure everyone is busy at this time of the year >_>
And I won't have summer break from university, since they called a strike on 2012 =(
>> Studying like crazy while I was supposed to stay home relaxing i__i and working, of course Very Happy*cough*

I think I'll need to build an Anki deck for these words, since I always forget most of them o___o
Let's go, here are my answers:

Wasser: Water
der Kaffee: The Coffee
die Zeitung: The newspaper
die Katze: The cat (cuuute)
die Bücher: The books? (Before listening to the pronunciation video, I thought it was read as "The butcher" XD Hmmm, fresh meat.)
der Reis: The rice
die Milch: The milk
das Brot: The... pan?

And for your answers:

Yay! You did great German Lessons! 2968088584 The only one you got wrong was das Brot. That one just means "the bread". ^^

Oh, that's right, why did I say pan? =P
Silly Mio. Can't even speak English.

And my university called a strike because... err.. I think the teachers wanted a rise in their salaries... and best conditions of work, or something like that.
My country doesn't value education that much, that's why we have one of the worst educations on the whole world Very Happy And that's why I feel so smart in here ~hoho

They even elected a clown as one of our representatives (what the hell @__@) Literally...
No hope for politics here. =(
They won't invest money on schools, hospitals, etc. They'll just give money to poor people and buy votes -.-'
